A fellow carver, Dick Janson was based out of Sonoma Creek California during the 20′s up to his death in 1951. Dick carved duck decoys that are highly prized today and the decoys have become increasingly hard to find at a decent price anymore.
About 15 years ago, I purchased this sign because I liked the lettering and the decoy that was on it and at the time thought it would be a riddle to figure out whose shop this sign was for. Turns out to have been the lower board that was in a sign advertising “Jansons Decoy Shop” in Sonoma Creek. I doubt there is anything else that remains of the sign besides this lower board which would be a great addition to a decoy collector. It would probably be appreciated more by a decoy collector than it is by me which is why I am taking offers on the sign at febersold@ yahoo .com just put ‘Janson Decoy’ in the subject otherwise it may get lost.
